My background is a bit all over the place, but I have obtained formal education in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and urban planning. I have taken jobs related to many aspects of land development (including multi-modal transportation planning, structural design/manufacturing of building components, real estate development, green building construction consultation and testing, travel behavior research, and even floodplain and emergency management.) I find residential and mixed-use land development fascinating, when done well. I also dabble in GIS, primarily as it relates to analysis of GPS coordinates obtained from travel behaviors, but generally revel in finding interesting uses for it in any field. (Can you think of one that *couldn't* use spatial analysis in some way??)
Anyways, topics that will most likely make it to this blog involve urban planning, placemaking, GPS, transportation, green building, energy efficiency, and anything to do with maps. I hope to update this blog more frequently after Labor Day...
